Description The Rottweiler is a medium large, powerful dog. They are show great strength, agility and endurance. They have solid, muscular bodies. | ||
Size The adult male Rottweiler is 24-27 inches tall and weighs 95-130 pounds. The adult female Rottweiler is 22-25 inches tall and weighs 85-115 pounds. | ||
Coat The Rottweiler has a double coat. The outer coat is straight, coarse, dense, of medium length and lying flat. The undercoat should be present on neck and thighs. | ||
Color The standard colors of the Rottweiler include black & mahogany, black & rust, and black & tan. | ||
Temperament The Rottweiler is calm, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. They are reliable, protective, serious, steady and confident. They are also loving and intelligent. | ||
Care The Rottweiler's has an easy care coat, but need regular grooming. Brush the coat with a firm bristle brush to remove excess hair. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary. | ||
Exercise The Rottweiler needs plenty of regular exercise. Take them on a long, brisk daily walk or jog. Playtime in an open fenced in area is also advised. They like to swim and well as retrieve. | ||
Training Firm and careful training is essential for this breed. Without training a Rottweiler may become too powerful and an overly aggressive dog. | ||
Shedding Rottweilers are heavy shedders. | ||
Barking & Howling The Rottweiler is not usually a barker, but will bark at annoying disturbances. | ||
Life Expectancy A well cared for Rottweiler can live 10-12 years. | ||
Health The Rottweiler susceptible to ACL damage and prone to hip dysplasia. | ||
